The Grammy Award winning band, The Flaming Lips performed their psychedelic treatment of Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon” album at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Wednesday, Aug. 3.
Setting up shop at the very front of the stage the band performed the iconic Floyd tunes mixed with Wizard of Oz songs. Along with the guitars, keyboards and drums seen at rock concerts, the band brought to bear a network of orange and black cords, electronic devices, cameras and creative combinations of confetti, smoke, video and strobe lighting effects that culminated in a visual and musical tour de force.
From the very beginning lead singer Wayne Coyne informed those in attendance of his intentions to crowd surf in a large plastic bubble, a regular fan favorite at their shows. With the help of the audience, Coyne made it half way to the top of the audience before returning to the stage completing a loop around the venue. The Flaming Lips are continuing their crowd pleasing tour to destinations as far away as Japan. For more information, visit www.flaminglips.com.
