Funk is not dead but when you add one of the best Colorado Funk/Jam bands to the grand daddy of all jam bands, the Grateful Dead, what you get is Funk is Dead!

One of our favorite bands, the Motet, announced this week that they will play another set of Halloween shows with their funky tribute to another band’s music. Past Halloween shows have quickly become legendary with the Motet’s flavor of tunes covering bands like The Talking Heads, Earth Wind and Fire, Tower of Power, Prince, Herbie Hancock, Michael Jackson and others.

This year’s treat of funked up covers comes from the huge library of Grateful Dead tunes, a band that, in their tenure, did a number of covers themselves.

From the Motet’s website, “How does the Grateful Dead’s sound fit into the energy and vibe of a Motet Halloween show?? Well, with that in mind we are taking the challenge of reworking those epic and timeless songs with the energetic afro-funk grooves that you all come to expect from The Motet…hence the theme “Funk is Dead!”.

The Motet will bring their Funk is Dead show to their regular haunts, The Aggie Theatre in Fort Collins, The Ogden Theatre in Denver and for Halloween night, Oct. 31st, Funk is Dead will take over the the Boulder Theatre.
I now know what we will be doing this Halloween and I think this year’s shows just may be, to quote the Motet, “epic!”

We wonder how RMJ is going to talk the band out of one of those cool posters?  (~);-}
