Let’s face it, I am a Warren Haynes fan. I have seen Warren many times playing with the Allman Brothers Band, Gov’t Mule, Phil Lesh & Friends and the Dead. So it should come as no surprise that I love the new Warren Haynes Band. Judging by the crowd at the Ogden Theatre Tuesday, May 24, I am not alone in my appreciation for Warren’s new group showcasing his rock and blues guitar rhythms and hard driving electric jams.
Tuesday Warren brought his latest project, The Warren Haynes Band, to Denver for a two night engagement at the Ogden. The Warren Haynes Band with members Ruthie Foster, Nigel Hall, Ron Holloway, Terence Higgins and Ron Johnson are touring the country promoting Warren’s latest album, “Man in Motion” which debuted on the Billboard Top 200 chart at number 19.
The WHB played to a packed house and had the place grooving with songs like ‘Sick of my Shadow”, “What is Hip?” and “Road Runner”. Then Haynes slowed the scene down with songs like the first set closer.
“I’ll be the one.” Warren asked the crowd if they were ready for a long night of rock and true to his words he delivered two full sets with the promise of all new songs for Wednesday night.
Haynes brought together a powerhouse of blues, rock and soul musicians including George Porter, Jr., Ivan Neville, Raymond Webber, Ian McLagan, Ruthie Foster and Ron Holloway, for the old school style of face to face recording of “Man in Motion.” Opting for tape recording over digital his new album is the sound Haynes has been seeking.
