As usual it is a tough decision for me on which show to see with Greensky Bluegrass playing two nights at the Gothic and Everyone Orchestra featuring members of FURTHUR (John Kadlecik / Sunshine Garcia Becker), PARTICLE (Steve Molitz),ELEPHANT REVIVAL (Bridget Law) ALO (Lebo / Steve Adams) Disco biscuits (Allen Aucoin) at the Oriental Theatre tonight and performing a Wake of the Flood benefit at Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom tomorrow eve.
Why can’t we be at two places at one time… hmmm…
We still need support for the flood victims so I think a two show run is in order. While you decide check out this video that Greensky recorded at the Second Story Garage studio at the Daily Camera.
Michigan’s Greensky Bluegrass is finishing up the Colorado portion of their national tour with shows Friday and Saturday night at the Fox Theatre in Boulder.
Greensky Bluegrass is a well established bluegrass band with a refined sound that has been touring for over 12 years now. In the last year even they have added about 100,000 miles to their tour truck spreading their flavor a smooth bluegrass sound. From a recent press release: “Rolling Stone declared that Greensky Bluegrass are ‘representing the genre for a whole new generation.’ Pretty solid endorsement and a true statement; they’ve got the folk/songwriting aspect of Railroad Earth, they have the intensity of Leftover Salmon, and their own original, psychedelic swirl when they turn bluegrass into a rock band, all without a drummer.” I will see you at the show!
Greensky Bluegrass is set to pay the Fox Theatre tonight, tickets are still available. Greensky Bluegrass is Anders Beck (dobro), Michael Arlen Bont (banjo), Dave Bruzza (guitar), Mike Devol (upright bass) and Paul Hoffman (mandolin). Check out this video of Greensky’s visit to the fox last February.
The Kinfolk Celebration was first held in Lyons in 2002 and now, on the ten year anniversary, Yonder Mountain String Band and the festival returns to Lyons, Colorado to celebrate their roots and hometown fans.
From the festival website “Ten years since the inaugural Kinfolk Celebration danced and smiled its way across the Planet Bluegrass Ranch, Yonder Mountain String Band’s annual celebration of community, camping, and musical mania is returning home to Lyons, CO.”
This year the band is focused on its Colorado fans. YMSB has been asking fans to suggest their favorite tunes for the band to play during the two day celebration and they plan to play a “fan request” set during the event.
The celebration will also feature a silent auction to benefit the Colorado Fire Relief Fund including archived posters, signed merchandise, tickets to upcoming events, as well as instruments and gear from the band’s vault.
We poked around a bit in our archives to find photos or images from that first Kinfolk Celebration and after a few twist and turns decided to instead offer up some great views from this year’s RockyGrass held at the same festival grounds and put on by the same folks at Planet Bluegrass. A special thanks to photographer Jeremy Williams for contributing these photos.
We are truly blessed here in Colorado to have so many cool events and performances to check out every week of the year!
