Here’s a treat for your St. Patrick’s Day. Thanks to our friend and archivist Steve, we have a full show for you from Boulder Band Hot Soup. This video was shot last week on 3-14-13 and it is hi-def, tripod mounted camera with a soundboard patch.
Fronted by local guitarist and shred meister Matt Flaherty, this band travels around Colorado, performing gigs and melting faces. Also on board in Hot Soup is bassist Brian Adams (DeadPhish Orchestra, Great American Taxi), Mirco Altenbach on Saxophone and Vocals and Ryan Sapp on drums. Here is the full show video, enjoy.
Drew Emmitt and Andy Thorn perform with the Steep Canyon Rangers at the Boulder Theater, Saturday, March 9th.
By Alan Crandall
Drew Emmitt and Andy Thorn teamed up for maybe the first official show as a duet at the Boulder Theater, Saturday, March 9th. Better known as the mandolin and banjo players for the Emmitt Nershi Band and Leftover Salmon, it was good to see them pair up to open for the Steep Canyon Rangers. Emmit and Thorn joined the Grammy award winning Steep Canyon Rangers on stage for several songs later in the evening to the delight of the audience. Here are some photos and a Cold Rain and Snow video thanks to GratefulWeb.com.
Bloggers note: To call Drew Emmitt a mandolin player is a bit of a misnomer… I believe that man can play anything with strings.
Greensky Bluegrass at the Fox Theatre, Feb. 9, 2012
Michigan’s Greensky Bluegrass is finishing up the Colorado portion of their national tour with shows Friday and Saturday night at the Fox Theatre in Boulder.
Greensky Bluegrass is a well established bluegrass band with a refined sound that has been touring for over 12 years now. In the last year even they have added about 100,000 miles to their tour truck spreading their flavor a smooth bluegrass sound. From a recent press release: “Rolling Stone declared that Greensky Bluegrass are ‘representing the genre for a whole new generation.’ Pretty solid endorsement and a true statement; they’ve got the folk/songwriting aspect of Railroad Earth, they have the intensity of Leftover Salmon, and their own original, psychedelic swirl when they turn bluegrass into a rock band, all without a drummer.” I will see you at the show!
